Threshold training is almost just as important as place or crate training. If you let your dog barge out of the crate instead of waiting and coming out on cue or you let him go through a door ahead of you, he has learned he can do whatever he wants. Also, your dog will think it’s in charge or the alpha. Issues like this and others left uncorrected can turn into HUGE issues in the future to include forms of aggression. Tug has been cooped up for a while now as his back foot has been healing from surgery. Today – FINALLY – I was able to take him for a nice structured walk this beautiful fall morning. As anxious as he was because his activity is limited, he was still a gentleman when I told him to “wait” before coming out. It was a great walk and he’s still got it!
